Iraq Nominates Al-Maliki

Nouri al-MalikiIraqi President Jalal Talabani has given his presidential decree to Nouri al-Maliki to form a new government in Iraq.

According to his constitutional authority, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani on November 25 issued a presidential decree nominating Nouri al-Maliki as prime minister.

The Iraqi constitution gives al-Maliki 30 days to present his government to parliament for a vote of confidence.

Al-Maliki has already begun preparing for his nomination by asking the various political blocs in Iraq to hand him the names of at least three candidates for each ministerial post, so he can make the final selection. His stipulations were that the candidates not be associated with the Ba’th Party and that they not have political or commercial interests with some Arab countries.
