The Jordanian Government will proceed to build a Red Sea-Dead Sea Canal. It will stretch from the Dead Sea in central Jordan to the Port of Aqaba in Southern Jordan.
This decision was publicized in Jordan at the World Economic Forum on the Middle East. The project is expected to cost between 5 to 10 billion dollars. Jordan hopes to begin water desalination as early as 2014, although the project is slated to be finished in 2031. The canal is expected to transport 1.9 billion cubic meters of water every day to the Dead Sea. There it will be desalinated and used by Jordan to supply water to cities and agriculture.
